One of the most frequently asked questions I get when giving lectures or when people find out I am a photogapher is "What is your favorite picture?". To which I normally reply I don't really have a favorite picture, but I do have a collection of favorite memories which changes from time to time and most of these have pictures connected to them.
Below is a gallery of favorite pictures/memories taken over the years, most of them were taken over 5 years ago and that's because I haven't really formed a feeling or opinion of my more recent pictures. I hope you like this little walk down my memory lane.
Pictured left to right are the three Canadian monkeys (aka the Canadian Mafia), Andy Clark currently serving with Reuters News Pictures, Denis Paquin who hangs his hat at the Associated Press Bureau in Chicago and myself living in self imposed exile in Vancouver, British Columbia. We were photographed in Speak No Evil, Hear No Evil, See No Evil style for some reason that escapes me now, in Moscow at the conclusion of the Reagan-Gorbachev Summit in 1988. We were all staffers for Reuters News Pictures at the time.
Note: During the early 1980's Black and White film was the main source for most news pictures, this moved to Color by the end of that decade. Most of the pictures here were shot while out on the road and had to be processed and printed in hotel room bathrooms with portable darkroom equipment. It was in these situations that speed was more important than quality and so the final image quality displayed here will vary.
