On this day Johnson set a new World Record of 9.83 seconds. In the 1988 Olympic final, Johnson beat Lewis, with a new World Record of 9.79 seconds. A few days later, however, Johnson's urine samples were found to contain steroids (namely Stanozolol), and he was disqualified for doping.
