Caption: Rome, Italy: Canda's Ben Johnson (R) beats U.S.A.'s Carl Lewis to the finish line of the 1987 World Track and Field Championships in what was to turn out to be one of the most controversal 100 meter races of all time. On this day Johnson set a new World Record of 9.83 seconds. In the 1988 Olympic final, Johnson beat Lewis, with a new World Record of 9.79 seconds. A few days later, however, Johnson's urine samples were found to contain steroids (namely Stanozolol), and he was disqualified for doping.
